We are blessed to witness another year to witness this great and joyous occasion of Eid Al-Adha. Many people dreamt of seeing this day this year but were not opportune to witness it. When you look back a year from now, so many things have happened, but Alhamdulillah, we are alive today to celebrate Eid Al-Adha.
Let’s take a few minutes to look at the story behind Eid Al-Adha. I’m sure we all remember it. It’s from the tale of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) saw a dream in which Allah asked him to sacrifice his son, Ismail to show his devotion, obedience, loyalty, and love towards his Lord. He obeyed and tried to sacrifice his son, but before he could, Allah intervened and replaced his son with a ram in place as a sacrifice.
Did you know that Shaytaan tried to get in the way of the sacrifice by attempting to corrupt both Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail from going through with the sacrifice?
Today’s moral lesson from this year’s Eid Al-Adha is loyalty and sacrifice inspired by the origin story of the celebration.
Loyalty comes in different forms. It is defined as giving and showing support or allegiance to a person or institution. For the one in this story, however, allegiance fits more because you can in no way support your Lord as he needs none.
Loyalty to Allah means complete submission to His will and what He commands. You don’t need to understand everything before you follow, and that’s where the faith also comes to play as both go together.
Don’t let your personal interest or Shaytaan sway you from being loyal to Allah because this world can never offer you enough and it is but a short-lived experience.
For the second part, let’s talk about sacrifice. Without a doubt, this world is full of temptation all around. There are many things you would want to do but you can’t because your religious teaching tells you it is not good. Choosing not to do those things is a sacrifice on your path because let’s face it, it’s not easy these days with the way the world is moving.
Keep trying your best and you will reap the benefits of your sacrifice.
